Spa-Quip error codes
Updated October 2026
Spa-Quip SP800 controllers beep and show an error number when something’s wrong. Here’s what each number means, how to reset it, and when it needs an engineer.
Type your Spa-Quip code into the troubleshooter for the safe checks.
Look up a codeWhat Spa-Quip errors mean
| Code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Err 1 (H20) | Prime failed: no water detected in the heater. This one doesn’t latch. | Press Retry (the down button) to run the pump and fill the heater. If it fails, do the checks below. |
| Err 3 | A stuck button: one has been held for over a minute. It can be water in the panel, a damaged cable, or the cover pressing on it. | Check nothing is pressing the panel, then reset at the mains. If it comes back, call us. |
| Err 4 | A problem with the water sensor in the heater. | Needs an engineer. |
| Err 5 | Over temperature: a sensor has read 45°C or more. Long pump runs in hot weather can cause it. | Don’t get in. Take the cover off, let it cool and reset. If it comes back, call us. |
| Err 6 | The heater’s safety cut-out has tripped, usually from poor flow or a pump that’s stopped. | Wait until the heater cools (below about 38°C), then reset at the mains. If it trips again, call us. |
| Err 7 | A stuck relay in the heater control circuit. | Switch off. Needs an engineer. |
| Err 8 | No temperature data: the temperature sensor or its cable has a fault. | Needs an engineer. |
| Err 9 | A fault with the controller’s clock. | Reset at the mains. If it comes back, call us. |
Error 2 isn’t used on the SP800. Other Spa-Quip controllers may use different numbers, so check your manual or our error code guide.
Err 1 (H20): what to check
- Check the water level.
- Make sure the valves and jets are open.
- Switch off at the isolator, take the filters out and clean them.
- Switch back on and press Retry.
If Err 1 keeps coming back, there may be air trapped in the heater, a small leak letting the heater drain, or a dirty water sensor. Those are jobs for an engineer.
How to reset a Spa-Quip
Errors 3 to 8 latch: the tub stays off until it’s reset. Switch off at the isolator, wait a minute, then switch on again. For Err 6, wait until the heater has cooled first.
Don’t keep resetting the same error. If it comes straight back, the controller is protecting the tub from a real fault.
The SP800 also keeps a log of its last 15 errors, which helps us find faults that come and go.

Spa-Quip code still showing?
Switch off at the isolator, then ring or WhatsApp us with the code and a photo of the panel.
If your tub is sunk into decking or the ground, or set against a wall, it helps to mention it when you book. If you’re not sure, a photo is fine.
