Repair Hot Tub Pump

The days when all the pumping that a hot tub needed was done by a single water pump are gone. Modern hot tubs or rather spas typically have two or three, while some might boast of five pumps. What do all these pumps do?

The basic function of the water tub is to keep heated water in the tub. The water pump, when it is operating, keeps the water circulating over a heater so that it is sufficiently warm. Water can get cold when it is being used.

The pump also pushes the water through the filtration system so that debris and harmful stuff in the water is removed. Without the force provided by the pumping, water might not get filtered adequately.

Other functions performed by the pumps in a hot tub include:

  • Providing the therapeutic massage of desired force. It is the pumps that expel the water through the jets in the hot tub with sufficient strength to deliver the massaging experience.
  • Mixing air and water to provide misted water to provide an enhanced massaging experience. An air blower is a dedicated pump that pumps air through the air pipes, while modern spas might have the functionality to mix air and water in the jets without an air blower.
  • Circulating ozone throughout the water where you have an ozone generator installed. Ozone is highly effective in removing harmful organisms from the water and maintaining it in crystal clear condition. Ozone also reduces the costs of standard chlorine / bromine sanitation.

Pumps are mechanical devices with moving parts and are among the first devices in the hot tub to cause problems. The problems usually occur because of:

  • Wear and tear of constantly moving parts resulting in some part failing and affecting the efficiency of the pumping function if not stopping it fully.
  • The acidity and other properties of the water affecting the ceramic seal separating the dry (motor) and wet (water) ends of the pump, creating cracks that causes water leaks. If the leak is not detected and the seal replaced early enough, water can leak into the motor and repairing the motor can cost far more than the cost of replacing the seal.

You can minimize hot tub servicing costs by keeping the water at the recommended pH levels through regular testing and treatment. Additionally, check the tub for any signs of leak; the earlier you detect a leaking pump, the less will be your hot tub servicing costs.

Hot Tub Water Jet Problems and Solutions

Hot Tub Water Jet Problems and Solutions

Water JetsThe water jets in a hot tub provide the real experience that you seek from the spa. When they cease to function as expected, your experience also deteriorates. An idea about the common problems and what to do in each case can definitely improve the experience.

Calcium Buildup: The calcium in hard water used in the tub can build up in the jets and cause mobile jets to become immobile. Test the water for hardness and add water softener chemicals as necessary.

Air in Water Pump: If air gets into the water pump when you drain the hot tub or otherwise, it can affect the pump’s ability to move water forcefully enough. At the jets, you will find that the water is not providing a sufficiently strong massage experience. The problem is solved by removing the air from the pump. Loosen the coupling (a little) at the discharge end of the pump. When the pump is switched on, air inside will escape through the opening. When water begins to spray through the opening, quickly tighten the coupling.

Irregular Flow of Water: Instead of providing a smooth flow, water might come out of the jets in spurts. This problem can result from several causes that need to be eliminated one by one to arrive at the real problem.

  • Check the level of water in the tub. If it is too low, air might be getting mixed with water and affecting the flow of the latter. Topping up the hot tub should solve the problem if this is the case
  • If water level is not the problem, filters could be. They might have become clogged and need cleaning or even replacement. To check, remove the filters and run the jets. If the water flow is normal now, the problem is filters. Clean or replace them as warranted. If the filter is beyond cleaning, putting them back can cause damage to the pump.
  • If the problem is not with the filter, the culprit could be a blockage in the plumbing. Check around the pump for the existence of any such blockage and remove if any are found.
  • If none of the above steps stops the problem, it could be with the pump or control system. Repairing these is best left to trained persons.

How To Repair A Hot Tub Pump

by

How To Repair A Hot Tub Pump

Many people enjoy using hot tubs year around, either in their homes or outdoors. When something goes wrong with the parts and functioning, it can be costly to fix. You can save a lot of money by repairing it yourself. By finding out what the specific issue is, it will be easier and quicker to resolve.

If something is wrong with the speed or speed controls, this is usually a sign that there is a problem. If it is stuck on either low or high speed, this is a symptom that there is an issue. Also, of both speeds go at the same time, you should try and resolves the problem so no further damage is done.

If your hot tub is stuck on low speed there are steps you should take to fix it. First, turn the thermostat all the clock wise and make sure to turn the timer off. Next, try switching it over to high speed. If this doesn’t happen you should make sure the high and low speed wires are both connected with the pump. If this fails, you should make sure all connections at the circuit board are okay and in working order.

If you are having the issue of both high and low speeds running at the same time, you can fix this by first disconnecting the pump cord and checking for power on the air switch. If both have power going to them, then there is an internal problem. This mean that the connecting wires have shorted in some way. You may end up having to replace the motor. If you are unable to switch from speed to speed, then the issue is the air switch.

If you are having the issue that it will not go on high speed, this is also either a pump or motor problem. If you try it and nothing happens, rotate the timer and then rotate the thermostat clockwise. After this, if it engages, you should switch the red and black wires. If it is impossible to make it go on high speed, you should replace the motor.

You can also consider checking the voltage. This is found in the back by the motor. If the voltage is fine, then the problem may lie in the pump cord itself. You can check for burnt areas, melted metals, and cord breakage. If you see any of these things, the cord should be replaced immediately. If something is wrong with the voltage at the air switch output, replace the pump output.

If the problem is constant low speed, there are steps to fix that as well. Firstly, turn the timer off and turn the thermostat clockwise. Next, try to switch to the high speed setting. If the high speed does turn on, all you have to do is re-work the wires by swapping out the black and red ones. If nothing changes, you need to replace the contactor.

These are suggestions on how to repair a hot tub pump. You should always be careful when working with electrical wires. If you cannot fix the problem yourself, there are professionals who can assist you.

Hot Tub Repair: Helpful Hints

Hot Tub Repair: Helpful Hints

Hot Tub RepairsWhile it is best to call in trained hot tub repair professionals to repair and service your hot tub in case of problems, some familiarity with the issues can help you brief the repair person adequately so that the person can come prepared and execute the work quickly. For the simpler issues, you might even be able to do the repair yourself.

DIY repair is not recommended where the issue is not a simple one. Electrical work could be particularly dangerous for amateurs in the presence of water. And unless the water flows are not switched off before removing any components forming part of the plumbing, the place could get more than a little messy,

Subject to the above observations, let us look at hot tub problems and simple repairs.

Hot Tub does not turn on

The typical reason is interruption in power supply to the hot tub, which could occur at several points. You would need a electrical multimeter to check availability of power and its voltage at these points. If you don’t know how to use a multimeter, it’s best you leave the electrical work to a trained person.

  • Check incoming power and its voltage, which should be 110V or 220V depending on your equipment.
  • If power is present and voltage is correct, check the trip switch. If it is not getting set properly (allowing current to flow) the problem could be with one of the connected components or the switch itself. Disconnect all the components and then reconnect them one by one. If the trip switch gets tripped on connecting a particular component (pump, heater, blower, etc) you might have found the problem.
  • If the trip switch is okay, check the fuse. If the fuse is blown, a test like the one described for trip switch could indicate the problem. On the other hand, if the fuse gets blown even when all the components are disconnected, the problem could be with the wiring. In this case, leave the task of troubleshooting to a trained electrician.
  • If the above procedures do not solve the problem, it could be related to the contactors or the control in the hot tub. Your best option is to call in your hot tub repair company and explain the problem and what you did.

Hot Tub Service and Hot Tub Repair Man

When you need hot tub service, you have the option to call any of the repair people out there. Why should you then call a particular service firm like hottubrepairman.co.uk? The answer is best found by looking at their testimonials page:

  • Professional, courteous and worked clean… You don’t get these from all service people these days.
  • To be told what work was being done… Some service persons don’t want you around so that they can fabricate non-existent problems and charge you for these
  • …process of elimination when at work… To hear the elimination process is to get confidence that the workers know what they are doing
  • …the work they have done for us is worth every penny… Large companies typically don’t like small works; they might even charge you a sizable amount just for coming over to take a look
  • …the extra advice he provided was spot on… When you get more than what you paid for, you feel it in a special way
  • I was struggling to find the parts What do you say about a company that takes the trouble to locate difficult-to-get parts from emailed pictures!
  • …repair man was round my house faster than you can say Hot Tub
  • as the pumps are no longer made any more.. An obsolete pump would typically have meant changing the plumbing; hottubrepairman just “swopped some parts about” and the plumbing fitted!

Testimonials like these are hard to come by and any company that can get them is definitely worth your custom.

Repair and service people need to be highly trustworthy as they can easily conjure up many problems that need attention when actually all that is needed might be just some cleaning. And then there are service people who take days or weeks to turn up after promising immediate response.

Hot Tubs: What to Expect from Top Spas

Hot Tubs: What to Expect from Top Spas

Hydrotherapy

Top SpasKnown as water cure in the 19th century and hydropathy later involves using water to provide pain relief and treat ailments. Hydrotherapy gained part of its popularity from its potential for home treatment. In modern days, water is used as a medium for application of heat and cold on different parts of the body, rather than as a curing agent.

Modern spas with their water jets make water application to desired parts of the body much easier. Electronic controllers can provide differing effects at the touch of a button. You can massage your body with hot or cold water and the water can be mixed with air as desired.

Hot tubs of today enable people to get hydrotherapies in style and comfort in their own homes.

A Great Experience

Underwater lighting with spa lights can produce color shows to create a fantastic experience. Add soothing music and your experience can be transformed into a surreal experience. Produce just the experience you want with the right jet pressure, color effects and music while relaxing in the water with remote infrared controllers.

Modern materials such as acrylic can add stunning looks to your spa. They can even look just like wood, without its messiness and proneness to damage. And getting in and out of the water is safer and more convenient with ergonomically designed steps.

And a Healthier Experience

Modern spas typically come with modern knowledge. Manufacturers know that the warm environs of the spa can create an inviting atmosphere for micro-organisms. Not only are options such as chemicals and ozone treatment available to kill the bacteria but you can also opt for special microbe-resistant modern materials that prevent bacteria growth.

Hot tubs are not just hot tubs in today’s world.

Hot tubs, consist of numerous components that together provide you the warm and relaxing experience you expect from hot tubs, they need regular maintenance and occasional repairs. Sanitation is not the only issue. Your hot tub has pumps, jets, heaters, air blowers and hot tub filters, all of which can become faulty. Hot Tubs and a Good Life

What’s the difference between a hot tub and a bath tub?

jacuzzi woman

Is it a Jacuzzi, Tub, Spa or Hot tub?

For one, hot tub is for a community rather than for a single bather, who is the typical user of a bath tube. Hot tubs also typically signify longer times in the tub, with convenient seating and even pillows to rest your head comfortable for longer periods.

Hot tubs are designed for more than just lying in the water. You can have massages of different flavours from plain water jet massage to water spray massages of air and water. And you can have the jets rotate to massage different parts of the body.

You can also have entertainment while lying in the warm water. You can listen to music that you produce yourself using a hydraulophone, watch a flat screen TV program or listen to a DVD. You can also have beautiful lighting displays built into your hot tub.

The modern hot tub is indeed a lifestyle product that can enhance the quality of life.

Hot Tubs During Pregnancy

by

Hot Tubs and PregnancyDon’t use your hot tub when pregnant, here’s why!

Many people ask me if its ok to use a hot tub whilst being pregnant, the following article explains 1 of the reason not to get in.

For many pregnant women, sitting in a hot tub sounds like a great way to ease muscle aches related to pregnancy. It is important to use caution when choosing a hot tub for relaxation and pain relief. Hot tubs can cause hyperthermia, which is an abnormally high body temperature.

What is the concern with hot tubs during pregnancy?
According to the Organization of Teratology Information Services (OTIS), a body temperature of 101º F and above can raise concerns during pregnancy. Some studies have shown an increased risk of birth defects in babies of women who had an increased body temperature during the first trimester of pregnancy.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) states that becoming overheated in a hot tub is not recommended during pregnancy. ACOG also recommends that pregnant women never let their core body temperature rise above 102.2º F.

Although the specific degree differs, both OTIS and ACOG attest to the concern related to hot tub use during pregnancy.

Hot tubs are often factory programmed to maintain a water temperature of approximately 104º F. It takes only 10-20 minutes in a hot tub to raise your body temperature to 102º F or higher. To maintain a steady temperature, water is circulated and re-circulated through the hot tub to pump out cold water and pump in hot water.

This Article is from an American website called www.hottubgateway.com its a great site, please check it out.
